What 3 Essential Oils to Use in Yoga

Here are my tips for using essential oils to enhance my yoga practice AND how I use in my yoga classes too! Essential oils are amazing as they literally have changed people lives and their yoga practice.  I adore using them before my classes because they bring yet another therapeutic component to the class, and they educate people on using natural health care in their lives!  Before class, I ask if anyone has health concerns surrounding the use of essential oils, then I show them how to apply them safely while mentioning the benefits.

1. The Grounding Blend – I love using this oil on the feet to center the mind and harmonise the body before practice. This blend of Spruce, Rosewood, Blue Tansy, and Frankincense brings on a feeling of calmness, peace and relaxation. I recommend this oils to people with sore muscles when I do massage, so with yoga you can give them a few drops in their hands and have them put the oil directly on the trapezoids/shoulders as well.

2.  The Respiratory Blend – This blend of laurel leaf, peppermint, eucalyptus, and melaleuca can be applied to the chest over the heart chakra. It soothes and open up the airways.  I find that if you look around class after you have everyone apply it –  they are all breathing easily, deeply and more mindfully.

3. The Joyful Blend – This is maybe my new favourite! It is a powerful oil for opening and balancing the crown chakra. This blend of Lavandin, Tangerine, Elemi, Lemon Myrtle, Melissa, Ylang Ylang, Osmanthus, and Sandalwood can be applied at the beginning or end of practice.  Perfect for a mood booster – this oil can be used on all reflex points, heart, ears, neck, and wrists.  I encourage you to diffuse this one in your home or studio, offer it at the sign in, or use it in shavasana.
