Here are Sarah’s expert tips on Anti Aging Fruit Enzyme Peels: Benefits, Recipes & How To Get The Best Results!
So what does contribute to skin aging?
Being born with good skin is a myth, says Dr. Arielle Kauvar, clinical associate professor of dermatology at New York University School of Medicine.
A common perception is that 20% of aging can be accounted for by genetics whereas 80% is thought to be from sun exposure, diet and other lifestyle factors like stress, smoking, drinking and exposure to air pollution. Sun damage is thought to be responsible for the lions share of this 80% and is responsible for advanced wrinkling, rough patches and pigmentation variance including hyper pigmentation, color variances, and some freckles. Sun exposure combined with other aging factors like smoking, pollution and stress also contribute to a loss of collagen which means skin looks less firm, elastic and plump.
Can our skin recover from environmental damage?
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, you have 19,000,000 skin cells per square inch of skin and these skin cells replace themselves each month! However this rate slows considerably as we age. This means our skin doesn’t recover as efficiently from sun damage and other damaging environmental factors as we get older, but there are natural ways to assist the skins renewal process like using fresh fruit enzyme peels.
How do fruit enzyme peels help reduce the signs of aging?
Fresh fruit enzyme peels are one of the best anti aging treatments you can do for your skin, with the added benefit of being easily made at home. Papaya, pineapple and green apple are popularly used in fruit enzyme peels due to their high enzyme content. Papaya being the most popular contains the active enzyme papain. Papain and other enzymes are organic substances that sustain life. Fruit enzymes assist our bodies with the large task of skin cell renewal by accelerating the natural skin cell exfoliation process. In other words fruit enzyme peels help to dissolve the layer of thickened dead skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin and inside pores, unclogging them to reveal fresh new skin and make improvements to skin tone and texture.
A fruit enzyme peel helps to:
Exfoliate dead skin cells
Stimulate new cell growth
Improve skin tone and texture
Decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Retexture flaky, scaly skin
Clear the pores
Prevent the formation of black heads and acne
Minimize pore size
Want to know how to make this in your own home? It’s super easy. Here’s how!
Puree 1/4 fresh papaya until there are no lumps.
For dry skin blend in 1/2 tsp raw honey.
For acne prone skin add in 1/2 tsp of fresh lime juice.
Massage the mix over your clean and dry face, neck, chest and the backs of your hands.
Leave the mix for 3-10 mins.
Rinse with cool water and a face cloth.
Use once per week.
Note: You should feel a tinglling sensation – this means the fruit enzyme peel is working. The efficacy depends on the freshness of the fruit you are using and how long you leave the enzyme peel on the skin for. If you feel any burning or are not comfortable with the tingling be sure to rinse with cool water.
How to get the best results from your fruit enzyme peel:
Prep the Skin with a Deep Cleansing Masque.
Many dermatologists recommend maintaining a weekly routine of exfoliation by using a deep cleansing mask like Tailor Masque before applying the peel. Deep cleansing mechanical exfoliants will buff away any easy to remove dead skin enabling the enzymes to penetrate deeper into the skins pores to clear and reveal a fresh complexion.
Nourish and Enhance with an Oil Cleanser.
After removing your fruit enzyme peel your fresh new skin needs protection and nourishment. An oil cleanser like Tailor Oil Cleanser is the perfect way to enhance the effects of a fresh fruit enzyme peel in three unique ways. 1. An oil cleanser will help remove any residual build up in the skin’s pores. 2. An oil cleanser will help to moisturise and nourish the skin. 3. An oil cleanser will help to provide a defensive layer to protect the skin.
Finish by Locking in the Moisture and Protecting the Skin.
Finish your at home facial with an ultra hydrating moisturizer which contains Vitamin B5 to lock in moisture and provide an additional defensive layer. Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic acid is a water based vitamin which attracts moisture into itself. When applied to the skin Vitamin B5 provides long lasting hydrating and subtle plumping effects helping to maintain the skins moisture levels and increase suppleness. Our Tailor Hydrate is enriched with Vitamin B5 as well as antioxidant rich green tea for long lasting hydration.
